More LAST words from Audra - last week

My friends,

There are not words to express the joy I've experienced working on this
amazing project with each of you. I will treasure this forever.

Remember in the next couple of days to study your parts, study your music,
walk through the play in your mind and think of all it's parts and pieces.

Most of all, study the words of our Savior. Feel His love and ponder what He expects of you.
If you are honest, you'll realize He expects only a broken heart and a contrite spirit, and
that is enough. It is enough to procure the miracles necessary to touch the heart of the
one He has prepared to receive the blessings of the restored gospel.

Remember our purpose, and He will bless us, this I know!

Oh, a couple other things to remember:
***If you want to own your costume, ask Betsy Lowe or Amy Smith for the final cost and then write a check and give to your bishop.
***We're taking a picture at 5:45pm Fri in costume, be ready!
***After Saturday's performance, you can take home all the props you have donated, your costume if you've paid for it, and please help with whatever clean-up is necessary.

COSTUMES

Hey there everyone,

I just wanted to remind you about paying for your costumes if you would like to own them. And aren't they beautiful!!!

What you do, is ask Amy Smith the cost for your costume. We estimate that each "full costume" is approximately $25 but some will be more and some less depending on the number of parts and the type of material.

To pay for your costume, please put the money in a tithing envelope and fill out the slip with your information at the top. Then, write "stake production" in the OTHER catagory. Keep the yellow copy for your records and give the envelope to a bishopric member.

Betsy Lowe has constructed a list of everyone that previously fill out the costume form indicating they would like to purchase their costume. Please let her know if you are interested in purchasing your costume so she can ad you to the list and Amy Smith can configure the cost of your costume.

On Saturday we will have a sheet in the Relief Society Room for you to sign out your costume
...only if you have paid your money to your bishopric.
Then after the play on Saturday, if your name is on the list you may take your costume home (but only after that has been verified with Betsy).

If you have any questions or would like to know the exact cost prior to Friday, please contact Betsy Lowe at betsy4kids@aol.com or Amy Smith at amyshake7@aol.com. They are happy to answer any of your questions.

Act ahead of time on this so Amy or Betsy are not hounded for three months after the play

Important Notes from Audra!

Hello my friends,

Thanks for making our cast party so much fun!!!
You are all a bunch of nuts!
I am really going to miss seeing you every week!

I just don't even have the words to describe how beautiful the performance was on Friday.
It came with enough power to fulfil Alma's wish (Alma 29:1-2)!

Here's some important notes...

First of all, NO ONE GOES OUT TO LUNCH DURING INTERMISSION!

1. Bring food with you if you get hungry!
2. Always be looking ahead for the next scene!

You must take some time to prepare yourselves this week so we don't go into Friday's performance too raw. Please read through your script & check lines; do a mental walk through of everything you'll be doing. Call upon the Lord and study his word and bring His spirit with you!

Remember, we can ask for these miracles and we will receive because He has prescribed a great work to be done through this production.

Sound:
Can we meet Thursday night (what time?) and run though our procedures half a dozen times so we are quicker at the draw? (Lisa and Jeff Gosnell)
Also, the sister missionaries can meet Sat at 4pm to check out the Spanish interpretation equipment to make sure our systems don't clash.

Cast:
Before you go on stage make sure your mic. box is on and not on mute!
Please don't switch switches on it. If you can put it in a sash on the outside of your tunic if you think you may accidentally flip switches, then that would be best.
If you are about to walk on stage, your mic may be on so don't clear your throat or talk.
If you are wearing your wedding ring on a chain around your neck please tape it away so it doesn't gleam in the lights or don't use a metal chain.
Keep speaking out and really bring out your climaxes in your songs strongly.

Nathan keep plucking your harp during your solo not just before- listen for the harp sounds.

Shepherds, remember we will turn off your mics for your "Good tidings of great joy" speeches and slow them down so the choir cuts you off!

Elisabeth, "honey" is not a Jewish term of endearment. Check those lines when Zach is brought back mute. I think the music cue may be waiting to hear a "vision" line that is being skipped.

Ezra, after you bump into Mary, don't walk so far away from her. The spot light needs to
be on you when you are speaking.

After the show, it might work better to have more of us go to the lobbies to visit with people,
not just among the chairs in the gym.

Stage hands:
Canopy needs to get off stage when you are putting up the Shepherd's hill.
After the Alleluia song and the women exit, remove everything but one tree near the stg. R platform and the well and vase. (remember to put out the well while the resurrected people are coming up on the stage)

The well and last tree get off stage during Celopas and Disciple's song, when apostles enter.
Fruit tree gets of stage before the 2nd upper room- very quickly at the end of Thomas' song.
***If something is missed, do it when there is a blackout, between parts, or when action is
moving elsewhere. Be discrete not panicked.

Lighting:
***Always put a spot light on the person or persons who are speaking!!!!!!!!!!
When Gabriel visits Mary don't leave Mary in the dark. We have to see her face.
When Ezra bumps into Mary, follow him with one spot so both speaking people have light.
Remember, actors on stage opposite your spotlight is what you are responsible to light up.
(there is only a few exceptions)
Leave a small spotlight on Mary and Joseph and baby all the way to the end of the song, wait
for the music to stop then blackout and shut the curtain.
Don't loose Mary Magdalene in the dark when she has the visit from the Savior. Adjust wider
if you need to to make sure all speaking people have light.
Lets not forget to plug in the back wall lights for the angels at the start,
And not forget the ressuraction (round cieling lights) lights right when Samuel the Lamanite speaks.
Wait to come out of a blackout until all the actors are set. We flipped on and didn't have
everyone in the boat on Fri.
At the finale', the lights are going off a few at a time, and I like that, but make sure you leave that one center light above their heads on, until the music completely ends, plus count to 3 after, and then blackout.
When you blackout at the very end, let the cast turn and look forward and then turn on all the lights for the curtian call (with music).
After the cast bows, then immediatley close the curtain.
However, on Sat we'll open back up the curtain and give a special thank you before we dismiss the cast.

Last words from Audra - for EVERYONE - cast and crew

Hello you wonderful people,
So, are you excited? I just can't wait. However, to be ready we better make note of some very important things, and there is a lot of information so read carefully the things that pertain to you.

EVERYONE:
--Be at the stake center at 4:30 or 5pm and be completely ready to go onstage by 6:00pm!!!!
--Put your mic. box on the outside of your tunic if possible so its easier to switch
with someone
--Tape your mic. with the grey dot closest to the corner of your mouth; rip the tape lengthwise and tape it more securely along your cheek bone and on your neck behind your ear.
--Sing out strong, forte is forte! Project.
--TURN OFF YOUR CELL PHONES and don't bring them onstage
--Remove jewelry, watches, nail polish, glasses etc.
--Careful coming off platforms, step quietly - no elephant parade.
--Quick through scene changes
--Be reverent in the green room; remember you need spiritual preparation before going
on stage just like the actor for the Savior does.
--Remember the "one" the Lord has prepared to partake of the blessings of the gospel will be there!

Stage Hands:
-- Mary's house ( blue rug and plant) not be out until after temple scene
--Be quick and discrete when putting out cube for Joseph's house do it while Mary is doing her monologue and moving across the stage.
--Quicker change to Nativity.
--At tomb/garden too many plants on stage right move the one I fixed over in between the
stone and left doorway
--After Alleluia song remove all plants and trees except one tree by the platform with the well
--Remove tree and well as the apostles are coming out with benches (1st upper room)
--No bent over behinds to the audience, turn around to bend
--Pull out the trees more horizontal so it is quieter and so they won't get wrecked

Make-up:
--Foundation on Savior's feet. scars are a little too black need to look less like gaping
wounds and more like scars-not bloody

Costumes:
--Various hats on Thaddeus, Matthew, Philip, and Simon Z.
--wrap Anna's pink wrap around her --"hands free"

Lights:
--Keep center of spots up on faces not knees
--Follow main characters when they are speaking.
--Shine bright on visiting Angels and the Savior and cut off spot immediately as they exit


Angel Chorus on Balcony:
--Slow motion movements--don't fidget
--Smile and sing out show us your facial expressions(bigger because we are far away)
--very animated with bodies and faces and arms on Glory song

Prophets:
--Be on the balcony more with the angels
--When you say your line speak strong and step into light or lean down over the balcony more
its hard to get you face with the spot lights
--Animate yourselves more to draw the eye

Act 1 scene 1
--Zach. don't stand in front of Elis. when she's talking about " the Lord bless you and keep you"
--Sit back on the platform if you are the downstage person
--Ezra, step closer to Elis. when you are talking to just her
--Nathan put your arms under the lambs legs
--Nathan sing out stronger on your lamb song
--Towns people & shepherds sing Come Deliver Us; just the priests and boys don't sing
--Eric Fallon make sure you take Dilion as your shadow in the temple scene and for the wedding processional-like you are brothers or something
--North wrap your foot and up your calf (not your knee) with the bandage like you have a hurt foot then lift the foot and hop more
--Brittney say Alms Alms to both men nice and loud
--Micham and Father louder greeting outside you doorway
--Benjamin step in closer to Zach and Elis. when you are explaining to them,
stay in the spotlight

Act 1 scene 2
--Joseph drop canopy to Micham with the other hand so your back isn't to the aud.
--Nephews can't twist the canopy on the poles; please practice early on Thurs with Micham and the stagehands
--Joseph project more and sing out
--Sing out women
--Sing nephews at end of song out with Micham and Joseph
--Anna cuddle in your blanket
--Anna say your line about "surrounding you with their lights..." at the same time you are walking around Mary and up on the platform
--Anna take blanket and comb with you when you exit
--Gabriel take a step forward closer to Mary when you say "fear not"
--Elis. be a little more obvious that you are pregnant in that scene with Mary
--Mary & Elis. speak clearer in your scene together, sounds like mumbling even though I know you're just trying to be tender.
--Joseph sing clear words on your solo, project and slay us with those fortes
--When Anna and sister are finished handing off Mary's veil come down off the platform and stand on the floor in front of it
--Joseph escort Mary to the canopy on your left arm so you don't have to switch places
when you get there.

Act 1 scene 3:
--After family leaves wedding towns people get animated, get your bundle start having conversations about what is going on in Jerusalem or at the temple or at the fish market or something
--Then get caught by the trumpet blow and the soldiers
--soldiers begin your exit right after the statesman leaves
--Towns people talk excitedly or angrily or worried as you exit
--Mary come out right as the Towns people are leaving
--Nathan find the lost sheep
--Nathan your harp is your prised procession so take really good care of it (and how you play it too)
--Shepherds scoot your lines closer together, it is dragging, have an interesting conversation
--Mary speak out
--Joseph and Mary take more care and time exiting when you've found the stable, help her more, she's in labor!!!
--Nathan put all your feeling into the nativity scene, this is your most important bit, show me how much you love Jesus just like you love your own family so very much
--Shepherds slow down your last speeches as if it was the most important thing you've ever said in your whole life. and being cut off by the chorus is what is supposed to happen.

Act 2 scene 1:
--Joseph of Ar. and Nicodemus start shutting the tomb sooner and get done and get off sooner, we've got to leave some time for Thomas to be alone out there--very important
--Bright light inside tomb goes on on the second and last time they sing "come"
and if you can make it come on more gradual that would be great!!!!!!
--roll the stone away farther away out of the doorway
--Cleopus sit back on the platform so Disciple doesn't get hidden
--Mary Mag. sing out strong its gorgeous!
--Resurrected angels start walking right when Mary Magdalene exits, don't wait for Samuel
the Lamanite's line. I don't want you to rush, I just want you to get to the stage sooner so
Amalie has it to herself at the end of the song.
--Sing out chorus

Act 2 scene 2:
--Peter be conscious to step forward so James' (or any one's) shadow is not on you and there
is no reverb on your mic.
--Alleluia song gorgeous but make your vowels more formal and tall--women's chorus not girl's chorus
--Savior use slow smooth movements when you go to let the apostles touch your hands.
--Rebekah start right away when the lights go up after everyone and everything is set
--Mary MOJ sit next to Rebekah when you say your line "put these in too", I can't see Joshua when he starts
--Joshua look at the people you are talking to
--Mary Mag. walk over closer to Salome when you say "childbirth" line then stay there
--Peter step forward
--Thomas slay us with that loud climax in your song
--Set change to Sea of Galilee black stagehands only, cast can get seated while they are finishing up
--don't hide the big net of fish so much let it be seen more as you pull it into the boat don't stash it so soon.
--James don't say "mill" say "meel"
--Apostles and Savior check the floor fro tape marks for where you sit on the seashore
--Savior put your arm around John while people are eating
--All apostles stand up straight, shoulders back and step forward animated when you say
your final lines.
--Peter be conscious of posture

BREAD:
We've practiced so long without bread that we didn't think to use it last week!
--Zach. puts flat bread in cloth and in travel bag
--Ezra has a big loaf in a basket when he bumps into Mary on his way to Elis.
--Shepherds break and pass around flat bread
--Cleopas packs flat bread in a cloth and in his travel bag
--Upper room has fish and honeycomb -- not bread
--The women are packing few loaves of whatever bread into cloths and into travel bags
--Savior breaks a big loaf on shore of Galilee

I just tried to think of every detail possible. I will print this and put it up in the green room
but please share the knowledge in case someone doesn't get this.

Dress Rehearsal - last rehearsal before we go live!

Hello, how's my favorite people?
Just some notes:
Tonight lets do it like the real thing.

Things to remember:
No jewelry, street shoes, street clothes, showing through costumes.

No lights in hallways.

No noise in the wings or hallways.

Shut green room doors, rely on video & managers. Every cast member helping to create a reverent atmosphere in the green room.

All stage hands, light guys, sound people dress in black.

Where light clothes under your tunics, pockets or a waistband would be good for putting the Microphone box in.

If something goes wrong just improvise and make it work. Know your music well enough you can keep singing right even if you can't hear the music well enough.

Place the microphone square close to the corner of your mouth with the grey dot to your cheek. And Project! Speak/Sing Out!

Those with long hair, try to get it out of your face, we need to see your expressions. Mary's especially!

Keep your wraps down off your shoulders, its not cold out, let it hang down your back just below your shoulder blades. Be careful to pin or whatever it takes to have you not constantly
adjusting you costume on stage.

Enter/Exit over platforms much more quietly---no elephant parades!

If there is a shadow on your face, move downstage a step (closer to audience).

Show your emotion bigger---especially chorus angels. Careful because concentrating
sometimes comes out looking like scowling on your face.

And the last note: If the spirit promts "yes, you need to add a rehearsal on Saturday,"
I will add one, but only if He directs. I want to know that we have done all we can do,
and then we can count ourselves worthy for the Lord to make up the difference.
We'll talk tonight about it.

Please make these adjustments if you get this in time, and we'll see you tonight at 5pm.
Be ready to start costume make-up and all at 6pm.

May the Lord bless us and keep us in the hollow of His hand,
which I have no doubt He will. Its just that we need to remember that!

From the Director

Just a note of reminders:

Unless you have problems or questions you don't need to come
to rehearsal with make-up on until NOV 6th and the performances.

Please be to rehearsal this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!

We will be running the green room (primary room) this weekend. So
no one in the gym, but be to your cues on time with your props!

Costume fittings on the 31st.

Those in scenes with Micham, be to rehearsal at 5pm on Fri the 30th.

What we learned tonight from our makeup test:

If you are fair skinned, use a foundation and powder a shade darker than your skin. (the lights will wash you out - and we haven't even used spotlights yet)

Remember to put foundation on your neck

If you are fair or red skin toned, use a more brownish lipstick and blush. Stay away from the brick or rust undertones.

The hair coloring mousse is available at Sally Beauty Supply next to Wal-mart close to the Stake Center for about $9 after tax. If you choose to use this instead of dying or spraying your hair, use the darkest brown available. BUT BE AWARE that it may come off on your hands or clothing so take care with your costume. That said, take note of the extra time it will take you to apply before performances, including the time it will take for your hair to dry before showtime.

Besides mousse, you still have the option of a non-permenant dye which should wash out in about 6-10 washings. (dye your hair before dress rehearsal (NOT day of) so you know you have the right color). Also, there is colored hairspray available at Sally Beauty Supply.

If you are doing your own makeup at home, please bring all of your products with you for all dress rehearsals and performances so you can touch up. Please put your name on every item, not just your bag.

Makeup does not have to be perfect - you can't tell when you are on stage.

If you still need us to apply your makeup but can purchase your own products the procedure will go a lot faster because we don't need to clean brushes in between people.

I will be at practice tomorrow night (Friday) if you want to bring the makeup that you have for me to check colors and teach you how to apply it.


Please remember to email me to let me know if:
1. you are not able to get makeup and need us to apply it for you
or
2. you have your own makeup but will still need us to apply it for you

How to apply your make-up

Dear Cast Members - these are wonderful charts that you can use to model while putting on your make up. (see below)

If you want to apply your own makeup (to avoid having an hour ealier call time), these are the least expensive products in the shades that we are using. If you have your own makeup that are similar colors, you do not have to purchase the makeup colors from Walmart or Walgreens that I listed in the previous email and on the face charts.

Remember, TOMORROW, Thursday, is the makeup test!!!!!

Thank you for responding with your dates you'd be out of town for important things.

Thursday - 10/22 - Make up Test

The information you have all been waiting for!!!!!!

The makeup test Thursday is to see how the makeup looks with the lighting so we have time to adjust if necessary. Please come to practice already in full make-up if you can.

Makeup will be very simple for everyone. You have the choice of doing it yourself at home or having us help you when you arrive at the stake center. IF you need us to do your makeup for you, your call time will be at least ONE HOUR pior to the regular call time for performances. (but not this Thursday)


WOMEN:
Foundation: can use your own, apply two layers, don't forget neck
Powder: YES, everyone, to avoid shine and sweat from lights. A translucent loose powder or a powder shade that matches your foundation shade.
Blush: very natural, try Cover Girl's Sierra Sands ($4)
Eyeliner: black, line top and lower lash line (Wet n Wild 0.99 or NYC 0.97 at Walgreens or Walmart)
Eyeshadow: dark brown, MATTE - NO satin or shimmer
Mascara: black
Lipstick: flat, matte natural color - Wet n Wild 901A or 905C (Walgreens 0.99)
Hair: If you are any character other than an angel or resurrected being, you MUST cover or color your hair brown. Try hair coloring mousse from Sally Beauty Supply or non-permanent wash out hair dye from Wal-mart, or hair coloring hairspray Burnt Brown from Sally Beauty Supply. (IF you are ONLY an angel or resurrected being, you do NOT need to color your hair)

MEN:
Can apply at home. Use your wife's/mom's/sister's or purchase your own OR we will apply at stake center. If we apply, then your call time will be ONE HOUR prior to regular call time for dress rehearsals and performances.

PS: There isn't money in the Stake Budget for make-up, so please do not purchase any item that you would not use for yourself. The Stake can not reimburse you for make-up. If you choose to purchase your own supplies, you will not be reimbursed from the stake. We hope you understand.

Practice for week 10/19 - 10/24

This week practice will be held on Thursday, 10/22 and Friday, 10/23. There is no Saturday practice due to Stake Conference.

We are in Full Run of the Play which means EVERY person in the play should be at practice from now on.

Last Saturday we timed the entire play (including intermission) in less than 2 hours! GREAT NEWS! We are really coming together and it's looking beautiful.

Now we need ALL CAST MEMBERS present to really pefect the play! Thank you again for your participation in this marvelous production! We only have two more weekends before our first performance!

Practice - Week of 10/12 - 10/17

My dear cast and staff,

I want you to be perfectly aware of where we are at:

--On your spreadsheet you see we have 6 more rehearsals and 2 dress rehearsals left.
--Act 1 has yet to have everyone come at the same time to even know their parts.
--We still have to add lighting and microphones to our practice.
--We don't yet know how to maneuver all our props and set pieces and we can't quite get off stage without a jam up or on stage at our cues.
--We are still using scripts and music (which we need to not use by next week)

Please understand this is not just some stake talent night where you can show up at the last minute and have it work out fine. Many of you are sacrificing much and need the others to pull their weight too. We have to regard this with professionalism if we plan to put on a production worthy for missionary work to our community. The Lord does not want his temples built out of cardboard and duct tape nor does he want us to slap together this extremely important work.

I know our wards are planning Halloween parties soon (namely the 30th). My condolences, but you all need to be at rehearsal- absolutely! We will have microphones that day and it will take everyone's participation!

Now is the time to commit completely. I'm sorry but other activities will wait. At this point, I know of only Dick Neal (who is out of the country until the 30th) who is excused from practice. So unless you tell me of something important, I expect you to be at rehearsal. You need to email or call me if you do have a problem with any of these final rehearsals. 384-6069

Now lets talk about this week's practice:

Thursday 15th-- Because of the "bring an investigator" fireside with Elder Hinckley,
this is what we'll do:
6pm -7pm -- full chorus music rehearsal for songs #3, #13, #18-19, #24
7pm-7:15 -- Zacharias and Elisabeth's song/scene
7:15-7:30 -- Alleluia, women's song/scene
7:30-8:00 -- Shepherd's song/scene
8:00-8:30 -- Thomas' song/scene
8:30-8:45 -- Apostle's song/scene
We will meet in the primary room. Small groups, expect a call from Lisa.

Friday 16th -- we will work on Act 1 only. Everyone in act 1 must all be there!!!!!!

Saturday 17th -- We feel very strongly to use this day to run the whole play. It is extremely important that we get everything to where it can all be run in one night (especially before we throw in microphones). Hopefully soon we'll get it to run in 2 hours. I'd rather add rehearsals now, than later in a panic.

I'm sorry to be such a stickler right now, but we are at that point where things can digress terribly, making us not ready for performances, missing out on what the Lord desires, or with a good effort we can be doing great and have a great experience. It is your choice now!

I love each of you and pray for you and your families. I know all too well the struggle Satan is giving us to try and stop this work. The Savior said "Lovest thou these more than me?" If we do love Him more, we will leave our nets and feed His sheep.

The Painted Set!

WOW! The set looks amazing - real life. I can't wait to see participants in costume on stage!







Swaddling Clothes


"And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn." (Luke 2:7)
"And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger" (Luke 2:12).It is well known that most people interpret the two verses above as referring to the clothing new-born babies wear today, i.e. the bundling of a new-born baby.I, myself, did not understand the true interpretation of the word "swaddled" as used in the Middle East in times gone by. I ignorantly accepted these verses to mean the baby was bundled up in a blanket or other clothes. It was not until fairly recently that I stumbled across the word "swaddled" in a church booklet that clearly explained the meaning of the word through 1st-century Jewish eyes. With this in mind, let's take a look at the birth of the male-child Yeshua the Messiah.Before we go into the Scriptural and historical understanding of this custom that was practiced by the majority of Semites -- including the Jews -- we need to know what being "swaddled" meant to them. In Jewish marriages, one of the greatest gifts that could be bestowed upon them was to have children -- and especially to have sons. This is because the Jews awaited the coming of their Messiah, and every Jewish family lived in the hope that their son would be that promised Messiah. Therefore, children were truly considered to be the "salt of the earth." Following is the procedure of a new-born baby being "swaddled."A new-born child is not clothed, but "swaddled." The word "clothes" found in the old King James Bible, and other versions, is misleading to the neophyte Bible student. The word "clothes" in these verses should have read in a "swaddling band," as it is referred to in Job 38:9 -- "When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddling band for it."Some versions of the Bible have "swaddling cloths" (without the "e"), which is a better way of translating it. However, "swaddling band" is the correct translation.
What exactly was a "swaddling band"? It was made from linen or cotton material and was five to six yards long (15-18 feet) we are told, and the width of the band was from four to five inches. Salt was pulverized by the mid-wife until it was in the form of a fine powder. When the baby was born, the mid-wife first washed the baby in water, then a piece of cloth about a square yard in size, was laid out and the baby placed on it in a diagonal position. As the custom was, the baby's body was sprinkled and gently rubbed with the finely powdered salt. Swaddled infants did not have the free movement of their arms and legs. The legs were placed closely together and then the baby's arms were placed at its sides and the piece of swaddled cloth was folded over the baby's feet and arms. Then the swaddle band was wrapped from under the baby's chin, over the forehead and wrapped around and around the infant all the way down to the ankles. When the baby was finished being wrapped in the swaddling band, it had all the appearance of a mummy. It is not certain from the Bible whether a mid-wife did the swaddling in the Messiah's case, or whether Mary did it herself. Either way, the infant Yeshua would have been swaddled.

Georges de la Tour, in addition to giving us a rare exception to the rule that Mary always wears blue, shows us exactly what a swaddled baby Jesus would have looked like.

Looking for backstage help with costumes!

Looking for a fun way to get involved with the play, but not be on stage? ... We are looking for volunteers to help dress, change, and move actors on and off stage. These people will assist actors with the organization and order of their costumes. They pretty much just make sure the costumes run smoothly throughout the show. Also, if something breaks, rips, tears, etc. they will be there to help. They would have to commit to coming to at least two dress rehearsals and 3 shows. (but we'll take what we can get :) and this would be a great YW value project!

What an uplifting experience it has been to help with the Savior of the World production! Hearing members of our stake act out the conversations that may have taken place among the apostles and early saints around the events of the Savior's death and resurrection has brought the scriptures to life for me in a way I haven't experienced before. It has opened my mind to consider how the Savior may have taught and served them. I can more easily feel His loving tenderness and everlasting kindness as He patiently helped them to understand what He had done for them--and for all of us. It is more clear to me what He wanted them (and now us) to do for Him.

His words to Peter while Peter dined with his friends are particularly meaning to me. He said, "Simon, Son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these?" and Peter hastily answered, "Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee." The Lord then responded, "Feed my lambs." Twice more the Lord asked and Peter responded, almost desperately the last time, that he indeed loved the Savior. But, the Savior answered, "Feed my sheep," and again almost pleadingly, "Feed my sheep."

Peter said again and again that he loved the Lord, but perhaps the Lord felt to ask him more than once because Peter was so easily distracted turning his attention back to the meal and conversation with the others. Am I not the same? I too am so easily distracted with different things in my life that all too often my love for the Lord is in word only.
I can even now feel the Lord's love in His plea to Peter. "If you love me, please, take care of my sheep." There was nothing that Peter could really do for the Lord Himself, but what he could do for the Shepherd's sheep. The Lord another time had taught:

"For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me...Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." (Matt 25:34-36 and 40)

How clear does it have to be for me? Whether it be home teaching and caring for a family, inviting a friend to church, spending time with and teaching my children, making sure my wife is happy, or helping build and paint a set for our Stake production, it is the same. My love for Him is measured by my efforts to feed His sheep.

Thanks for all your insight as we work together on the production. What a marvelous and faith-building experience this has been already!

Music Clarification!

Okay so lets clear up some confusion about the music that even I was lost on.

First, I think it is important that everyone learn everything they can! In order to fill a sound that has sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses we need even the cast members that are characters not just the chorus of angels. Whether they'll sing from backstage or out or not at all, will be etermined as we discover the flow of things when everybody is there and we're moving from one scene to another.

Second, We will sing with the sound track that has helpful choral voices singing with you unless I find you don't need it. So no panicking!!!

Third, to simplify some of the big numbers, do this as you are practicing at home:

On #3 Basses, tenors, altos, and sopranos when your parts split, just sing the TOP NOTE.
Except for measures 44 - 70 then sing 4 parts(SATB)
And at measure 158 sing all those notes.

On #13 sing as written until measure 27, there men sing all but the top notes on their oohs
at 31 women sing only the top 3 notes until count 3 in measure 33 sing all 4 notes.
At measure 43 women sing exactly what you sang at measure 35,
Men at 43 sing just tenor top note and bass bottom note until the last chord sing all 3 notes.

On # 18-19 on the first half of the song just follow the soprano or tenor lines everyone sing
those 3 notes and that rhythm. At measure 16 sing all the parts until measure 29 then everyone (but sopranos), sing just the top note. At measure 33 hit your top note and just hold it to the end of the song. Except sopranos and tenors move up to the G and Bflat at measure 35.

On #24 At measure 37 women just sing the top 3 notes alto, sop 2 and sop 1. Men sing as written.

I hope that makes it a little clearer than mud, especially for those who read music well. Believe it or not I'm trying to simplify it as much as I can. I don't want you to worry lots. Remember we're trying to bare testimony of the Savior and that is our main purpose!

We needed to move the rehearsals of Oct 16 & 17 to Oct 15 & 16. If you were scheduled to come on the 16th - come on Thursday the 15th (same time); If you were scheduled to come on the Friday the 17th - you now come on the 16th (same time). THANKS!!!

Pease make that change. This is it. The performance is quickly aproaching so keep studying, memorize your lines and music, and pray often. The sooner you memorize the easier the rehearsals will go.

OCTOBER 31 Schedule CHANGE!

Cast and Crew,
You may have noticed on the spreadsheet that we changed the October 31st rehearsal time. Many of you want to go trick-or-treating and who am I to deny you candy. (Hee Hee Hee!) Anyway, we'll now have the rehearsal from 1-4 pm.
However, you all need to understand the importance of this particular rehearsal. On the 30th
and the 31st is the first time we will be able to use microphones and as you can imagine, that will take some practice to get used to and smooth out some bugs. This is CRITICAL to the performance going smoothly. So, block out your life's schedule and be at this rehearsal.

Need Transportation - Please help!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

There is a sister and her daughter that are in NEED of transportation to and from rehearsals. They need rides to the choir practices and a few scenes in Act I.

COME HELP with SET CONSTRUCTION

Hello all,
We need help finishing 2 platforms and 2 ladders to access the balcony this Thursday, September 3rd, and Friday, September 4th in the evening beginning around 6:30 pm.

As mentioned previously, please bring a hammer, circular saw, and extension cords.

If you know of anyone interested in helping or have any questions yourself, please contact me (689-0917). We are a little behind schedule and really need your help to get this finished so that we can begin painting!

Need Help with Construction

If you are interested in helping build the set, please come to the Stake Center this Saturday, August 29 from 12 to 4 pm. We plan to build 2 ladders to access the balcony and 2 and 1/2 more platforms. We will also do more to secure the balcony railing.

Please, bring a hammer, circular saw, jig saw, chop saw, measuring tape, speed square, extension cords, etc. if you have them. If you don't, come anyway!

We also need 1 or 2 large extension or, even better, A-frame ladders to raise or remove hanging curtains, lights, etc.

If you know of someone who'd like to help, please invite them to come, too.

A Must - Sandals

Hi everyone,

One item that will be necessary for you to secure for yourself is a pair of "Gladiator" type sandals. They are currently available at Target, Sears, and Wamart -

they are also available online at each of the stores as well. The cost ranges between $5-$11.


If you have any questions or difficulty with this please contact Amy Smith, our Costume designer.

A Note from the Director

Hey there,
I want you to know how very wonderful you are all sounding at music rehearsals. It is really going to be spectacular! Lisa and I are working on some things to simplify some of the songs that are kind of crazy.
Also, if you feel you need one on one help, you can set up a practice time with Lisa 339-7222 or you can contact your ward music chairperson or choir director to to work with them, or you can go to church distribution and order the Savior of the World soundtrack for about $11. Listen to it a lot and that will help.

We should have simpler schedule breakouts on the blog for you either today or tomorrow, so please check the blog and your emails WEEKLY! I've got some pictures of the set too. It is awesome!

Week of August 15 - August 22

This Thursday, August 20 we will be working on music at 6pm.
We'll do the opener and closer for act 2 (#24 #37) and the song the angels sing to the shepherds (#18/#19).

I should be seeing everyone there.

Also, on Friday, August 21 we'll be reviewing all the songs we've learned so far at our music practice at 6pm (#1, 13, 22, 24, 37, 18/19).

So the whole cast should be there too.

Please be prepared by bringing your music. Again, if you can't get music printed, please ask
Betsy right away so she can have it for you Thurs.

then it wouldn't have to be purchased.
